Our "story" begins in 1906 when at the dawn of cinematography, Felice Boschi (founder of Fotocinema) began his career in the development and printing sector in Lyon, with one of the Lumière brothers (Auguste).
Since then, handed down from generation to generation, the Company has reached the times of today in continuous technological evolution, with the satisfaction and pride of having been able to live and pass on all the phases of the evolution of the cinematographic and television image.
Fotocinema is one of the oldest laboratories in the world and today it is among the few to have kept active all the working processes of the film, in 16mm and 35mm, vital for the conservation and restoration of the cinematographic and documentary film heritage.
Our mission is to preserve film, on all the different support, from the more recent acetates to the old flammable nitrates.
Today in fact the main activity of Fotocinema is the restoration of motion pictures film, operating into the two main line of film preservation: the photochemical side, with a complete totally renewed line of film handling, printing, processing and film out from digital files, and the digitalization side, with 4K scanning, digital restoration, with a “frame by frame” reconstruction of the film of the past. This is achieved from our talented operators with “state of the art” software and technological infrastructure, with a 16Gb LAN and an on-line 100 TB SAN, digitally cleaning frames, reconstructing missing parts and color correcting film true to the original.

Our facility is located in the very centre of Rome, half a kilometre from the Coliseum, in a property 19 th century monastery, masterly restored with a mix of classic and industrial look, with a total surface of 1000 square meters.
